Dinesh Karthik has recently endorsed Shubman Gill as Rohit Sharma's opening partner for Team India in the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025. He also added that Gill forms a strong combination with Rohit Sharma in ODI matches. 

Since the start of 2023, Gill has been India's first-choice opener alongside Rohit in ODIs. However, Yashasvi Jaiswal has given him tough competition.

However, Dinesh Karthik believes that Gill will retain his spot as the primary opener for India in the ICC tournament next year. He also suggests that Jaiswal, who is yet to debut in ODIs, could serve as a valuable backup opener. 


Dinesh Karthik Selects Shubman Gill Ahead Of Yashasvi Jaiswal As A Opener

During a Cricbuzz show, when Karthik was asked about the possibility of Rohit and Jaiswal opening for India, he said, 

“Why? Rohit and Shubman are a very good combination. Yes, Jaiswal has a great opportunity to be the backup opener and will get his opportunity soon if Shubman doesn’t go as well as expected. And India has a very solid middle order as well.”



Shubman Gill's Recent Form

Shubman Gill last played for India during the recent white-ball tour of Sri Lanka and had a mixed performance. He scored 73 runs in two T20I matches at an average of 36.50 with a strike rate of 137.74. 

He struggled in the ODIs and managed only 57 runs across three games at an average of 19.00 and a strike rate of 61.29.

It is important to mention that, Gill will now have an opportunity to regain form and confidence as he leads Team A in the Duleep Trophy 2024, which begins on September 5. His performance in the Duleep Trophy will be crucial as he prepares for the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh.
