Nepal opener Kushal Bhurtel shocked India’s new-ball attack with a blazing start at the top of the order. The 26-year-old took on the likes of Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj as Nepal raced to their team fifty within nine overs itself.

Amidst Bhurtel’s run-fest in match number five of Asia Cup 2023, the cricketer was adjudged LBW by the umpire after he failed to read Hardik Pandya’s full delivery towards leg stump. The opener instantly took the DRS and ended up surviving the decision.

Hardik Pandya became the first bowling change of the innings as he took over from Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj to bowl the eighth over. The all-rounder straightaway made an impact after seemingly trapping Nepal’s rampaging opener Kushal Bhurtel in front of stumps.

However, Pandya’s celebration was short-lived as Bhurtel’s DRS call overturned the on-field umpire’s decision. The ball-tracking in the television replays indicated that the ball was angling down the leg side, thus missing the batsman’s leg stumps to survive the call.

As it turned out, Bhurtel eventually perished the following over at the hands of Shardul Thakur. The speedster induced an edge towards wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan in just his fifth ball of the match.

Bhurtel’s blitzkrieg lasted for 25 entertaining deliveries, and his short 38-run stay made enough impact to provide his side a rollicking start at the top against Asian giants India. Apart from a close DRS call, the cricketer also survived a couple of easy catches at the hands of Indian fielders in his innings.
