Nicholas Pooran has recorded the highest score of the T20 World Cup 2024. West Indies is currently playing against Afghanistan in the tournament's 40th match.

Rashid Khan, the Afghanistan captain, won the toss and invited West Indies to bat first. Johnson Charles and Brandon King gave West Indies a blazing start and gave the initial impetus to the team.

Afghanistan saw the back of King in the second over of the match, and this brought Nicholas Pooran into the crease. Pooran has not had the best of tournaments prior to this game, and the West Indian management would have ideally liked to get him into his groove. Pooran looked in a different mode today and was intent on bringing down carnage on the Afghan bowlers from the beginning.

In the fourth over of the innings, Pooran tore apart Azmatullah Omarzai and notched up 36 runs of the over. This stands as the most expensive over in T20 WCs alongside the infamous Stuart Board over from the 2007 edition.

However, Pooran did not stop after this and continued his carnage against whosoever arrived at the bowling crease. He scored a fiery, aggressive and well-decorated 98 runs off 53 deliveries. Pooran's effort is now the highest individual score in the ninth edition of the T20 World Cup.

His brilliant effort also saw the 200-run mark breached for the second time in the tournament. West Indies also recorded the highest team total of the tournament, going past Australia's 201 vs England.

Rovman Powell and his men will be looking to get done with the Afghans quickly and record a significant win before the Super Eights get on the way.
