Australian all-rounder Erin Burns, widely acknowledged as one of the greatest fielders in modern-day cricket, justified her reputation once again by saving a certain six near the boundary line. Turning up for her side Sydney Sixers in a Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) 2023 match against Perth Scorchers, the cricketer flew across the boundary to throw back the ball within the ropes, thus restricting Alana King’s big hit down to two runs.

Erin Burns exhibits unreal fielding commitment

Desperate for two points, hosts Perth Scorchers went up against Sydney Sixers at the WACA Ground in Perth on October 31. Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Scorchers slumped to 126-6 by the end of 16 overs, thus paving way for all-rounder Alana King to arrive to the crease.

King made instant impact, and bludgeoned a 14-ball 33* to catapult her side to a competitive 166-8. Notably, her efforts would have taken the Scorchers to 170 if not for Erin Burns’ boundary excellence.

In the last ball of the innings, King smacked Sixers spinner Ashleigh Gardner for a certain six towards her leg side, only to find a vigilant Burns guiding that region of the boundary. In a bid to prevent the ball from flying across the ropes, the 35-year-old jumped over the boundary and threw back the ball inside while still being mid-air, thus keeping King down to two runs.

Unfortunately for Erin Burns, her fielding efforts did not prove enough for Sydney Sixers as they ended up falling 36 runs short of their target. With their latest defeat, the Sixers slumped to the bottom of the WBBL 2023 points table.

They will now go up against defending champions Adelaide Strikers at the same venue on November 3.
