Australian legend Alyssa Healy was recently injured in a vicious dog attack, which subsequently pulled her out of Sydney Sixer’s Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) 2023 match against Sydney Thunder. The destructive Australian opener was bit on her right index finger while she was attempting to separate her two Staffordshire bull terrier puppies, Misty and Millie.

Healy underwent a surgery on Sunday morning and is soon expected to make her return to the field. However, an exact timeline of her return is yet to be specified, either by the cricketer herself or by the Sydney Sixers team management.

Alyssa Healy gives update on her injury

Alyssa Healy confirmed that her right index finger was badly injured, however, there was no damage to the bone or tendon. While speaking with ESPNCricinfo, she said:

“I've got two puppy dogs who were having a rough and tumble, it got a little more than that and unfortunately got my hand in the wrong place at the wrong time, my right index finger took a bit of a battering. It was quite gory…the positive side of it is that the surgery all went well.”

“That's probably the best news possible. There was an artery involved which probably made it look more like a crime scene than it needed to be, but the major important things that will take time in coming back weren't affected.”

Alyssa Healy turned up for Sydney Sixers in their opening match of the 2023 WBBL in North Sydney against Melbourne Stars on October 19. However, the injury prompted her to skip her side’s subsequent two fixtures against Sydney Thunder and Brisbane Heat.

Healy’s Sixers captain Ellyse Perry acknowledged her teammate’s injury, and described her absence as a huge blow for her side.
