There was a lot of interest in Babar Azam, the world's No. 1-ranked ODI batsman at present, ahead of the commencement of the 2023 World Cup. However, all he brought to his ardent fans were disappointment, as he continued to fail a significant impact on Tuesday (October 31) during Pakistan’s clash against Bangladesh at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. 

Chasing 205, Babar was not required to do much after coming to bat at No. 3. Openers Abdullah Shafique and the returning Fakhar Zaman set the platform, having added 128 runs without losing any wickets.

Yet Babar departed cheaply after scoring only nine off 16 deliveries, and Bangladesh’s ace spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz enjoyed his success.

During the 26th over of Pakistan’s innings, Babar came down the track against Mehidy and tried to hit him over long-on. However, the spin of the delivery deceived him, and the moment after he hit, he knew he was in trouble.

Mahmudullah Riyad then completed a simple catch near the boundary line, as Babar’s misery continues in the World Cup 2023.
