Dunith Wellalage, Sri Lanka's young sensation has turned heads in the India-Sri Lanka Asia Cup game by picking his maiden five-wicket haul. His wickets include Shubman Gill, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya. The 20-year-old bowled beautifully right from the onset and got the big wicket of Shubman Gill is his very first ball, ending the 80-run opening stand.
He then ran through India's famed middle order and never let India settle as India's batting order crumbled in a dramatic manner. One of Wellalage's big wicket was of KL Rahul, who looked pretty comfortable in the middle during his stay and was looking set for another big score after his majestic hundred against Pakistan.
Talking about the ball that outfoxed KL Rahul, it was a touch shorter and pitched on off. However, because of the slow nature of the pitch, the ball stuck on the pitch for a bit and KL Rahul who went on the back foot to work it towards the leg side played his shot a bit early. So, he ended up hitting it off the bottom of his blade and hit it to Wellalage who took an easy catch, and triggered a big collapse.
India just could not recover from KL Rahul's wicket and were reduced to 186-9 as Charith Asalanka got into the act with four wickets.
