India has been traditionally a country known for its batting heavyweights. Over the years, India have produced some great batters who have etched their name in history books with truckloads of run behind them.

Also, there have been some legendary opening batting pairs for India in ODIs like the famous Sachin Tendulkar-Sourav Ganguly pair, Sehwag-Sachin pair and more recently, Dhawan-Rohit Sharma. Now, one more opening pair is taking rapid strides on their way to greatness as Gill-Rohit Sharma opening pair have notched up 1000 runs as an opening pair in just their 13th innings together. They are the fastest to reach 1000 runs as an opening pair in ODIs.

Overall, Rohit Sharma-Shubman Gill is the 10th opening pair for India to score 1000 runs between them. Sourav Ganguly-Sachin Tendulkar opening pair has scored most number of runs as an opening pair in ODIs with 6609 runs in 136 innings. They had 21 100-run partnerships along with 23 half-century stands.

Interestingly, second in the list is the Shikhar Dhawan-Rohit Sharma pair who have scored 5148 runs between them in 115 innings. They had 18 century partnerships and 15 half-century partnerships. Shubman Gill has replaced Dhawan now and has done quite well to take the legacy forward with consistent runs over the last year or so. Gill- Rohit Sharma have four century stands between them so far with the latest one coming against Pakistan in Asia Cup Super encounter.

They are going well, in the game against Sri Lanka too and at the time of writing, they have notched up another fifty-run stand and are looking strong to get another big century stand.
