Dinesh Karthik opined on India's struggle against the left-arm spinner, saying that they can be the 'villain' for the team on slow pitches. Dunith Wellalage, a Sri Lanka left-arm orthodox spinner, joined the list of bowlers, who have troubled the Indian batters in the recent past.
While the India openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill delivered a good start, the moment Wellalage came to the attack, the match took a U-turn in the favour of Sri Lanka.
On the very first ball of his spell, the tweaker dismissed dangerous-looking Shubman and then got rid of Virat Kohli, and Rohit in his following overs as Lankan Lions roared.
Seeing India again at the receiving end versus a left-arm spinner, Karthik tweeted:
"Left Arm Spin on SLOW pitches can be a villain for TEAM INDIA."
Kishan, Rahul performs rescue act
After Wellalage removed India's top three, Ishan Kishan and KL Rahul survived his spell. They forged a fifty-plus partnership as India again aimed to take control over the steering wheel. However, Wellalage again came back to take a wicket as Rahul perished via a caught and bowled, and then removed Hardik Pandya on the last delivery of his spell.
At the time of writing, India are at 184/7 in 41 overs with Axar Patel and Jasprit Bumrah Pandya batting unbeaten 6 and 4 runs respectively.
