Out of favour India Test batter, Ajinkya Rahane's poor form in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024 continued, who turned up for Mumbai against Kerala, and scored a golden duck today.

The Elite Group B encounter at St Xavier's College Ground, Thumba, Thiruvananthapuram, witnessed Mumbai captain Rahane edge a ball the wicketkeeper Sanju Samson off Basil Thampi's bowling.

This was Rahane's second golden duck, having earlier scored a one-ball duck against Andhra in Mumbai's second Ranji match of the season. Rahane against Andhra, got out to Nitish Reddy, who trapped the batter leg-before.

Interestingly, Rahane missed Mumbai's first match of the season against Bihar, after sustaining a minor neck injury during a net session.

Rahane, who has featured in 85 Tests for India slamming 5,077 ahead of the Kerala tie, spoke about making return to the national side, and wanting to play 100 red-ball games for the country.

The 35-year-old last featured for India in the World Test Championship Final (WTC) 2023 against Australia, where the middle-order player registered scores of 89 and 46, only to see himself get dropped from the West Indies tour in July, where the management opted to play the likes Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, and Yashasvi Jaiswal.

As of writing, Mumbai are 117 for 5, with Shams Mulani, and Shivam Dube batting on 2* and 9* respectively with Lunch on Day 1 already taken.

The 41-time Ranji Trophy winners are leading the Elite Group B standing with two wins, and 14 points.
