In the second Test of the series between Sri Lanka and England, Ben Duckett, the in-form England opener, faced a challenging moment. England were put to bat first and Duckett, along with Dan Lawrence, took on the responsibility of providing a solid start in the absence of the injured Zak Crawley.

While Lawrence fell early, Duckett ensured that the scoring rate remained brisk, keeping England's momentum alive.

However, the introduction of Sri Lankan spinner Prabath Jayasuriya after the drinks break proved to be a turning point. In the 19th over, Jayasuriya delivered a full, flighted ball aimed at off stump. Duckett, known for his aggressive style, attempted a reverse sweep—a risky shot under the circumstances.

Unfortunately, he mistimed it, and the ball sailed towards deep backward point, where Lahiru Kumara was stationed. Kumara moved swiftly to his left and secured a crucial catch, sending Duckett back to the pavilion.

England building their innings against SL

Duckett's dismissal at 41 left England at 161-4, with Joe Root and Jamie Smith at the crease. Despite his consistent run-scoring over the past year, Duckett's tendency to get out playing ambitious shots has sparked criticism. His departure left England with a challenging task ahead, as they continued to build their innings against a determined Sri Lankan bowling attack.
