Australia kicked off their Super 8s campaign in the 2024 Men's T20 World Cup with a solid victory over Bangladesh, winning the rain-affected game by 28 runs (DLS method).

Australian skipper Mitchell Marsh's decision to bowl first paid off as Pat Cummins delivered a hat-trick to restrict Bangladesh to 140/8 in their allotted 20 overs.

In response, Australia started strong with David Warner leading the charge. Travis Head also contributed significantly during the Powerplay, ensuring the Aussies kept scoring over the required rate.

The highlight of the chase was Warner's explosive and well-constructed half-century. In the 11th over, the southpaw brought up his fifty when he smashed a fuller-length delivery from Taskin Ahmed for a six over the deep square leg boundary.

His aggressive knock placed the Aussies well ahead of the DLS par score before rain returned in Antigua.

After what was a stop-start affair in Antigua, Australia held on to be adjudged rightful winners in their Super Eights Group 1 match against Bangladesh. With the victory, the Men in Yellow opened their account in the Super Eights points table.
