In an entertaining moment of the Women’s Big Bash League 2024 season, a Sydney Thunder player flaunted her unique dancing skills to activate power surge for her team. Facing Brisbane Heat, Sydney Women posted 170/5 in the first innings.

Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) 2024 season is in full swing, with Sydney Thunder Women taking on Brisbane Heat Women in the 16th fixture held at W.A.C.A Ground in Perth. Brisbane invited Sydney to bat first, and Phoebe Litchfield’s 40 off 25 at no.3 helped her team accelerate the score after a slow start.

With 123/2 at the end of 15 overs, Sydney Thunder activated their power surge of 2 overs but with a twist. The Power Surge, a new concept in WBBL, allows the batting team to call for a two-over period where only two fielders are allowed outside the inner circle, thus providing a golden opportunity to increase their run rate.

However, the activation process has been changed this season to add more entertainment to the contest. A player from Sydney Thunder had to press a red buzzer to signal for the power surge. However, the player added some fun by celebrating the power surge activation with a quick dance on the field, much to the delight of fans and viewers.

Needless to say, this lighthearted move by the Thunder women not only entertained the crowd but also showcased the fun spirit within the team.

That being said, Sydney Thunder Women failed to utilise the advantage as they scored only 13 runs in two overs and lost a wicket as well. Yet, with Heather Knight's unbeaten 59 off 34 balls that saw the Thunder Women end strongly at 170/5, it was setting up pretty nicely for the chase.

In particular, Sydney Thunder Women sits at the top-most place of the WBBL 2024 points table with 4 points from their 3 games. In comparison, Brisbane Heat Women sits at the 4th spot with 4 points garnered in 4 games.
