The Indian team is all geared up to take on South Africa in a four-match T20I series, starting Friday, November 8, at Kingsmead in Durban. After beating the Proteas in the T20 world Cup 2024 final earlier this year, the Men in Blue will be hoping to replicate their performance and put on a show again.
With games lined up in Durban, Gqeberha, Centurion, and Johannesburg, there’s a lot of action and records on the line. Here’s a list of all the records that Indian players can break during the SA vs IND series.
Suryakumar Yadav Eyes T20I Records vs South Africa
Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav is chasing a few big records. He’s currently 84 runs short of overtaking Rohit Sharma’s record as India’s top run-scorer against South Africa in T20Is.
A solid 156 runs would also help him go past Jonny Bairstow’s total against South Africa and make him the leading scorer overall against the Proteas in T20Is. Plus, if Surya hits six more sixes, he’ll join the 150-sixes club in T20Is, alongside Rohit Sharma and Martin Guptill.
Arshdeep and Hardik Chasing Wicket Milestones
In the bowling department, Arshdeep Singh and Hardik Pandya both have 87 wickets and are on the hunt to become India’s top T20I wicket-taker, with Yuzvendra Chahal’s record of 96 wickets in sight.
If either manages to take 13 wickets, he’ll hit the 100-wicket mark, becoming the first Indian to do so in T20Is. For Arshdeep, this could also mean breaking Haris Rauf’s record for the fastest pacer to reach 100 T20I wickets.
David Miller Going for South Africa’s Top Spot
For South Africa, David Miller has his eye on a major record too. He needs 189 runs to move past Quinton de Kock and become South Africa’s leading T20I run-scorer.
What To Expect From SA vs IND T20I Series?
With so many records within reach, fans can expect an electrifying series as both teams look to make a mark. Kingsmead in Durban will set the stage for the opener, followed by matches in Gqeberha, Centurion, and Johannesburg on November 10, 13, and 15.
With the T20 World Cup trophy already under their belt, Suryakumar and his troops will be eager to make another statement, while South Africa will look to avenge their defeat.
