In a significant development for England women and Heather Knight fans, the England captain has been ruled out of a long injury after injuring her calf during the final group-stage match of the Women's T20 World Cup 2024 and will feature in the upcoming edition of Women's Big Bash League.

Notably, Knight had to retire with a calf injury during the first innings against West Indies and did not further participate in that match. Eventually, the West Indies women chased down the target that knocked England out of the tournament.

Heather To Play WBBL For Thunders

In the latest events, England Cricket posted an update on Heather and remarked that the medical team have cleared her of a long injury, and she is fit to play in the 10th edition of WBBL starting on October 27.

"As pain and function has significantly improved over the last couple of days, she will link up with the Sydney Thunder to continue her return to play under the guidance of both Sydney Thunder and England medical teams," The ECB released a statement.

The 33-year-old took to social media to confirm that she had ruptured her plantaris tendon in her calf, saying she "was doing good" and that the injury wouldn't keep her out for long.  According to ECB, Knight will join her WBBL side in a few days as the Thunder's first WBBL game is on October 28 against the Hobart Hurricanes in Tasmania.

In the recently concluded Women's T20 World Cup 2024, Knight had scored just 27 runs in three matches and averaged 27 runs.  It is worth noting that Knight was crying inconsolably as her side suffered an early exit in the prestigious T20 event.
