Hardik Pandya and Ishan Kishan led India’s recovery following team’s top-order jitters against Pakistan in their opening 2023 Asia Cup match. The two cricketers shared 138 runs together for the fifth wicket, to lift the ‘Men in Blue’ from 66-4 past the 200-run mark.

Both Pandya and Kishan slapped sparkling 80s, and in doing so, instilled life back into the game. The two big-hitters also livened up the crowd in Kandy’s Pallekele International Stadium.

Hardik Pandya and Ishan Kishan, with their counterattacking partnership, livened up the Indian crowd in Kandy to a point that they started chanting a popular song encompassing country’s rich folklore.

One of the prime examples of the same occurred during the 37th over of the Indian innings, when Pandya swept Pakistan spinner Mohammad Nawaz for a boundary. A significant portion of the Indian contingent in the crowd celebrated the boundary by singing in unison.[Watch] Crowd Loose Control After Hardik Pandya's Charismatic Six Against Pakistan in Asia Cup

Kishan eventually perished in front of Haris Rauf after scoring a run-a-ball 81. The wicketkeeper-batsman departed from the crease after having taken India past the 200-run mark.

Hardik Pandya also made his way back a while later after slamming 87 from just 90 balls. Their partnership set up the team to form a competitive score upfront, after they were reduced to 66-4 at one stage.

Earlier in the day, captain Rohit Sharma and number three Virat Kohli were both cleaned up by Pakistan’s new-ball pacer Shaheen Afridi. The speedster returned to claim a couple more wickets to his tally.
