Shaheen Afridi rocked the Indian top order early with the key wickets of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in their Asia Cup 2023 duel in Pallekele. The Pakistani speedster cleaned up the two batting veterans to reduce the famed Indian line-up to 27-2 and 66-4 amidst rain interruptions.

Following Afridi’s sublime opening spell, former cricketer Shoaib Akhtar used a Bollywood quote to praise the young bowling star.

Former Pakistan paceman Shoaib Akhtar issued a unique praise for Shaheen Afridi after the latter jolted the Indian top-order in Kandy. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Akhtar quoted a phrase from the 1975 Bollywood classic ‘Sholay’ to describe India’s top three batters, openers Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill and number three Virat Kohli.

The 48-year-old later bragged about Afridi’s success, claiming that the youngster alone accounted for two of them early in the innings. Akhtar also urged the Pakistani troops to keep the pressure on India’s now vulnerable batting line-up.

Following India’s early jitters, the ‘Men in Blue’ batters seem to be on a course to recovery to post a competitive total.

After Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s cheap dismissals, Shubman Gill and comeback man Shreyas Iyer also departed a while later, thus paving way for Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya to form a concrete resistance at the crease.

Kishan even raced to his 82 at run-a-ball, while Pandya got himself settled. At the time of writing, Pandya has got the company of Ravindra Jadeja as the duo is looking to take the Indian total past 300 at Pallekele.
