India had a disastrous start to their innings in the much-awaited Asia Cup 2023 face-off against arch-rivals Pakistan, as Shaheen Afridi rattled their top order with a spectacular new ball spell. India's problems aggravated soon, with Haris Rauf removing Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill in quick succession. 

However, the reliable duo of Hardik Pandya and Ishan Kishan saved India from a precarious poistion, stitching a priceless stand for the fifth wicket. Besides completing valiant fifties, the swashbuckling batters set the record for the highest fifth wicket partnership for India in Asia Cup history.

Pandya and Ishan joined hands in the middle when India were reeling at 66 for four in 14.1 overs. The batters absorbed pressure with the utmost ease, dealing with the rampant Pakistani pace attack with utmost bravery. While Ishan earned massive accolades for his exceptional 81-ball 82, studded with nine fours and two massive sixes, Pandya took on the spinners to smack a memorable knock. 

Riding on their stupendous rescue effort, India have powered themselves to 238 for five in 42.3 overs, with Ravindra Jadeja and Pandya batting 14* and 86*, respectively.
