The Barbados Royals are pursuing 177 runs in the 13th match of the CPL 2024 at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados, against the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons.

The Falcons were put into bat after the Royals won the toss ahead of the game. Brandon King and Justin Greaves got them off to a solid start as the duo scored 55 runs off the first six overs. Brandon King was dismissed in the next over, but that did not deter the progress of the Falcons.

Billings and Greaves powered the Falcons to a competitive total

As King left the centre, Sam Billings walked in and formed a solid partnership with Greaves. The duo put on 92 runs together, laying the foundation for a respectable total. Greaves stayed in the middle until the end of the innings and ensured the team got past the 170 mark. However, due to the loss of some wickets towards the end of the innings, the Falcons were restricted to 176/5 at the end of the 20 overs. Even though it was 15-20 runs short of what they would have expected, it was a competitive total.

Athanaze's promising start was ended by an unfortunate run out

The Royals needed a solid start to chase down the target. The wicket of Rahkeem Cornwall early in the innings was not what they were hoping for. But Quinton de Kock and Alick Athanaze formed a great partnership in the middle and got the Royals moving towards the target.

However, an unfortunate incident resulted in the fall of Athanaze and the breaking of the 72-run partnership between the two. On the fifth delivery of the 10th over, Shamar Springer bowled a good length delivery outside the off stump. De Kock, facing the delivery, shuffled across the stumps and tried to play that over fine leg. However, he missed and got hit on the pads. The ball rolled towards the point region, and the batters set off for a single. Midway through the run, Athanaze and de Kock collided; this, coupled with a brilliant direct hit by Sam Billings, ended the young West Indian batter's stay in the middle.

Soon after Athanaze's departure, de Kock followed, putting the Royals under pressure in the chase.  However, Rovman Powell and David Miller have taken contol of the proceedings and are taking the team towards the target. At the time of writing, the Royals are stationed at 124/3 in 14 overs with rain interrupting the proceedings.
