Chris Gayle turned back the clock on Sunday when the West Indies Champions were in action against South Africa Champions in Match 9 of the World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2024 at Edgbaston, Birmingham.

The 44-year-old smashed six sixes and four fours in an entertaining 40-ball 70, which eventually helped them register their first victory of the competition.

More significantly, the way he smashed a one-handed six out of the park against one of the South African fast bowlers reminded fans of Rishabh Pant.

Needless to say, Pant has stamped his authority to one-handed six, a shot which he often plays day in and day out.

Riding on Gayle’s 40-ball 70, the West Indies chased a challenging 175-run target against South Africa in 19.1 overs with six wickets in hand. Despite the win, they remained fifth on the points table, while South Africa, who have lost three out of three, languished at the bottom of the chart.

Pakistan, meanwhile, are at the top, winning four matches on the bounce. India are third, having won two out of three matches.
