Bangladesh’s National Cricket League 2024 season became stage to some surreal and hilarious series of events during Day 2 of the four-day match between Sylhet Division and Khulna Division at Cox’s Bazar. As it turned out, Khulna Division off-spinner Mahedi Hasan had the ball slipped out of his hands while bowling to a well-set centurion Asadulla Al Galib.

In response, the Sylhet Division batter stepped out and dispatched the ball towards his leg six for an attempted six, only to get caught out by a substitute fielder.

Entertaining drama unfolds at NCL 2024 season

Forming forces at 214-3, Sylhet captain Amite Hasan hammered down a scintillating double ton during his mammoth fourth-wicket stand with fellow centurion and number five batter Asadulla Al Galib. Their partnership lasted more than 85 overs and yielded 251 runs to take Sylhet past the 450-run mark by the final session on Day 2.

As it turned out, it took an accidental delivery from Khulna spinner and Bangladesh star Mahedi Hasan to break the partnership. Hasan, while bowling to Asadulla Al Galib, had the ball slip out of his hand during the 161st over of the innings. In a bid to seize the opportunity, Asadulla stepped out of his crease and smacked the full toss for an attempted six, only to be holed out by substitute fielder Sheikh Parvez Jibon well inside the boundary.

Asadulla Al Galib made his way back to the pavilion with 115 runs to his name from 242 balls. His captain Amite Hasan crafted 213 runs with 18 boundaries and a six while opening batter Pinak Ghosh belted 99 on Day 1.

Sylhet Division eventually had their first innings declared at 496-7d late on the second evening. Khulna openers Anamul Haque and Amit Majumder survived the remaining two overs of the day and will resume their first innings at 3-0 on Day 3.
