In the ongoing 2nd Test between Pakistan and South Africa at the Newlands Stadium in Cape Town, the hosts won the toss and opted to bat first. The decision turned into a masterstroke as the Proteas got off to a brilliant start.
Aiden Markram and Ryle Rickelton got off to a brilliant start as they stitched a fifty-run stand for the opening wicket. While the visitors were troubled by the pace at which the runs were flowing, the Shan Masood-led side dealt another blow as Saim Ayub twisted his ankle.
Ayub, in an attempt to stop the ball from racing towards the boundary, slipped on his way and twisted his ankle. He was crying in pain and couldn't get up on his own. While other players were concerned for Ayub, it was Babar Azam who went up to the budding batter and consoled him.
Babar patted Ayub's back and assured him that he would be alright soon to return to the cricket field. Further, Ayub too held Babar's thigh to get some relief from the pain. The fans were impressed by Azam's gesture and wanted to see Ayub pain-free.
Ayub Stretchered Off The Field After Injury
Physios attended Ayub, and they did heavy taping on his foot, following which he had to be stretchered off the field. At present, there is no update on Ayub's injury, but he has been taken to hospital for scans.
Talking about the match, Pakistan are cruising towards to put a big total on the board as the Proteas are 156/3 with Temba Bavuma and Ryan Rickelton going strong.
