Pakistan captain Babar Azam was spotted stopping Mohammad Rizwan from celebrating a wicket against England in their recent World Cup 2023 face-off in Kolkata.

The incident occurred during the 41st over of the English innings after Pakistan pace maverick Shaheen Afridi had cleaned up a well-set Ben Stokes. As the entire team converged around Afridi, captain Babar seemingly tried to put Rizwan’s hands down while the wicketkeeper was trying to celebrate.

Pakistan captain Babar Azam tried putting Mohammad Rizwan’s hands down when the wicketkeeper was trying to celebrate Ben Stokes’ wicket with Shaheen Afridi.

Stokes, in his attempt of accelerating the English innings in the backend, lost his off stump to Afridi after scoring a quickfire 84. Regardless, his thunderous 76-ball knock paved the foundation of England’s colossal 337-9 upfront, a total which eventually crashed Pakistan out of the World Cup 2023 semi-final race.

Pakistan, requiring to chase down their target in less than seven overs to secure a top-four finish, ended up losing the contest by 93 runs. The ‘Men in Green’ line-up was folded up for just 244, with Agha Salman’s 51 turning out to be the biggest benefactor of the innings.

Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan themselves scored identical 30s, and shared a 51-run stand for the third wicket following the early dismissals of both Pakistan openers.

The defeat marked Pakistan’s fifth of the 2023 World Cup, as they finished the tournament at number five on the ten-team points table. Remarkable, Babar Azam and co. had launched their campaign with emphatic wins over Netherlands and Sri Lanka in Hyderabad, before ultimately losing their plot to endure four demoralizing defeats in a row.
