New Zealand commentator Ian Smith hilariously mimicked his Indian counterpart Ravi Shastri at the commentary box during India’s World Cup 2023 clash against Netherlands in Bengaluru. Smith’s over-the-top parody act left everyone in splits, including Shastri himself alongside former Indian women’s cricketer Anjum Chopra.

While India’s all-firing top-order entertained Bengaluru’s M. Chinnaswamy crowd with an enthralling batting display, Ian Smith in the commentary box also chipped in by entertaining television and streaming viewers with a hilarious mimicry act.

The former New Zealand cricketer, commentating alongside ex-Indian players Anjum Chopra and Ravi Shastri, mockingly imitated the latter’s style of commentary in an over-the-top manner.

Smith unfolded his mimicking act during the 30th over of the Indian innings, and in doing so, incited a laugh riot among his commentating peers at the time.

Notably, the two cricketer-turned-commentators are widely considered among the best voices of the modern-day game. Both Ravi Shastri and Ian Smith also narrated the final few moments of the 2011 World Cup and 2019 World Cups respectively, thus immortalizing their voices at the zenith of cricket’s greatest stage.

On the cricketing front, Team India amassed a staggering 410-4 from their 50 overs. The high-scoring innings featured dazzling fifties from Shubman Gill, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli; and thunderous hundreds from KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer.

The match, marking the final league fixture of the 2023 World Cup, will be followed by the knockout stage on November 15 in Mumbai.
