Babar Azam returned to play in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) on Tuesday (January 23) during Match 7 of the ongoing edition between Rangpur Riders and Sylhet Strikers. Straightaway, the former Pakistan skipper, representing the Rangpur-based franchise, made an instant impact at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka.

While fielding for his side, Babar had an opportunity to run out Dushan Hemantha, who was facing his first ball of the day. The Sri Lankan all-rounder shuffled across to play Ripon Mondol to deep mid-wicket for a quick two. Running from the boundary line, Babar was quick to throw it at the strikers’ end, and as a result, Hemantha’s ruthless dive did not save him from a run out.

Coming to chase a below-par 121, Babar came to open the innings for the Riders. As of now, he seemed to be in fine touch, batting on 13* off 11 balls with the help of two fours. Nurul Hasan, the skipper, is batting from another end, on 2* off 6 balls.

Babar decided to give up Pakistan's captaincy across formats after a miserable World Cup 2023. However, it did not help his side to improve, as they lost in Australia and New Zealand in an embarrassing manner.
