Mashrafe Mortaza run out (X.com)
People who have achieved illustrious careers and achievements often receive a lot of respect. In the same way, Bangladesh's legendary captain Mashrafe Mortaza has made a name for himself over the years.
However, what he did while leading Sylhet Strikers’ Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2024 clash against Rangpur Riders in Mirpur was not something that he will be proud of in the years to come.
Batting first, Mortaza promoted himself to No. 3 on Tuesday in an attempt to maximise the powerplay. However, the ploy did not work, as Mortaza fell after a paltry seven-ball six. More significantly, the way he was dismissed brought a lot of criticism around him.
It was a full delivery by Mahedi Hasan, which Mortaza played towards the square leg region for a single. It was a simple run on the cards, but Mortaza casually kept his bat on air despite crossing the non-strikers’ line.
Azmatullah Omarzai attempted to run him out, while Mahedi failed to grab the ball cleanly. Yet, the wickets broke, and at that point, Mortaza’s bat was still in the air.

While everyone thought that it would be a regulatory replay check by the third-umpire, the replay showed otherwise. And hence, Mortaza had to lose his wicket in a humiliating manner.
