'Big Mistake If...,' Vaughan Urges India To Stay Wary Of Jack Leach On Turning Track

Former England cricketer Michael Vaughan has warned India of the consequences of developing a spin-friendly track as he thinks Jack Leach will outclass the Indian batters in the first Test in Hyderabad.

India will lock horns with England in an extended five-game Test series starting from Thursday. The series opener is scheduled in Hyderabad for pitch, and the curators are expected to form a spin-friendly track.

Indian conditions have historically been spin-dominant. Moreover, with as many as four full-time spinners at their helm, the hosts will back on their strengths on the turning track.

However, former England cricketer Michael Vaughan raised serious doubts about India's game plan. In a recent statement, Vaughan opined that India's master game plan to build spin-friendly tracks could backfire as the team is making a mistake by underestimating Jack Leach's capability and effectiveness.

He explained that if the ball starts to turn from ball one, England's spinners will be right back in the game. Jack Leach and a couple of young spinners will surely attain success on turning tracks, given England bats first.

"I think it would be a big mistake if the pitches spin hugely from ball one of the series. Spinning pitches bring Jack Leach and the young spinners England have selected into the game. Is Leach a better spinner than Jadeja? No. But if you give him a turning pitch, and England bat first, he will be right in the game," Michael Vaughan said.

Needless to say, Michael Vaughan's theory sounds unconventional. However, the Indian side surely cannot afford to lower their guard.

Jack Leach has been a consistent performer for England in Test cricket, and his left-arm spin provides a valuable dimension to the team's bowling arsenal.

As India looks to maintain its strong home record, the battle between India's batsmen and England's spinners, including Jack Leach, is expected to be a focal point of the Test series.

The effectiveness of India's approach against spin, particularly Leach's, will likely play a crucial role in determining the outcome of the upcoming Test matches.
