Ben Stokes Doubtful; Here’s England’s Probable Playing XI For 1st Test Vs India

As reported by thecricketer.com, Ben Stokes, England’s red-ball captain, is doubtful to play in the first Test against India, starting on January 25 in Hyderabad. While the star all-rounder’s reason for not featuring is still unknown, there are a good number of chances of the outcome, especially because of his lack of game participation in recent times.

Recently, the ECB confirmed that England won’t have the services of Harry Brook in the upcoming high-voltage tie in India. Dan Lawrence, who will be Brook’s replacement for the series, will only arrive late on Monday (January 22).

Hence, Lawrence's participation in the series opener is unlikely to happen as well, while Shoaib Bashir, the right-arm off break bowler, has not received a visa yet.

Amidst the challenging circumstances in England camp, let’s have a look at England’s likely playing XI, which will be in action at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.

England will open with Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett, who have been performing admirably under the leadership of head coach Brendon McCullum. Ollie Pope and Joe Root will bat at Nos. 3 and 4, respectively, followed by Dan Lawrence, Jonny Bairstow, and Ben Foakes.

When it comes to spin department, Jack Leach and Rehan Ahmed should make the cut, while James Anderson and Mark Wood will take care of the fast bowling department. In this scenario, Ollie Robinson is expected to be sidelined.
