In the seventh match of CPL 2024, the Guyana Amazon Warriors showcased an outstanding performance against the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots at Warner Park Stadium. After winning the toss and opting to bat, the Warriors faced early setbacks and lost early wickets of Kevin Sinclair and Shai Hope within the first six overs.

However, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Shimron Hetmyer turned the game around with a blistering partnership.

Anrich Nortje Trick Rahmanullah Gurbaz With Stunning Delivery

The duo added 116 runs off just 47 balls, with Gurbaz leading the charge before being dismissed by Anrich Nortje in the 14th over.

Nortje, the South African ace speedster, bowled a fuller-length delivery that Gurbaz tried to heave across the line.

However, he missed the connection, and the ball crashed into the stumps, which brought an end to his impressive knock of 69 from 37 balls. Despite his departure, Hetmyer continued his explosive batting and kept the momentum for the Warriors setting them up for a massive total.

Gurbaz and Hetmyer Record Breaking Partnership

The partnership between Gurbaz and Hetmyer played a crucial role in pushing the Warriors towards a record-breaking display, and further put immense pressure on the Patriots' bowlers.

Later on, Keemo Paul's rapid-fire 38 from 14 balls and Dwaine Pretorius' 13 off just 5 balls further propelled the Warriors to a record-breaking total. This score of 266/7 stands as the highest total in CPL 2024 and the second-highest in the tournament's history.

Fletcher And Rutherford Kept The Patriots' Hopes Alive

Chasing a daunting target of 267, the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots knew they had to start aggressively to stand any chance of breaking their two-match losing streak.

Despite losing in-form Evin Lewis early and Kyle Mayers contributing 28 from 17 balls, the Patriots found themselves in trouble as their middle order collapsed. Josh Clarkson and Odean Smith failed to contribute significantly, leaving the team in a precarious position.

However, Andre Fletcher and Sherfane Rutherford kept the Patriots' hopes alive. Rutherford played a blistering knock and scored 34 off just 12 balls, which helped the team stay in touch to chase down a massive target.

Despite the valiant efforts from Fletcher and Rutherford, the Patriots faced an uphill task in chasing down the CPL record total. At the time of writing, St Kitts are 212/9 in 17 overs.
