In the latest news, Sanju Samson, the wicket-keeper batter, has been included in Team D as Ishan Kishan will miss the first round of the Duleep Trophy due to a groin injury.

Sanju Samson continues to seek consistency at the international level, performances like his maiden ODI hundred remind everyone of his potential and why the selectors continue to back him despite his occasional struggles.

His maiden ODI century against South Africa in December 2023, at Boland Park, Paarl, showcased his ability to perform under pressure.

This century holds significant importance as the Kerala batter has been in and out of the Indian Team since his debut in 2015.  But this knock remains fresh in the minds of the cricket fraternity and fans.

Sanju Samson Steps Up For India When It Mattered The Most

Sanju Samson was not having a good outing with the bat in that series, he failed to score runs in the second ODI but still was given another chance and he turned things around on a tricky pitch in Paarl, where India was under pressure after a poor performance in the previous match.

Playing on a challenging pitch, Samson's composed 108 off 114 balls was crucial in guiding India to a competitive total of 296/8 in the series decider.

Initially taking his time, he adjusted to the conditions and later accelerated the score to prove his versatility as a batter.

Quick Recap To Sanju Samson's Impressive Performance

Talking about the match, India was not in good condition after the early wickets. Sanju walked in early at No. 3 after the dismissal of Rajat Patidar. Things worsened for him as Sai Sudharsan was dismissed in the 8th over.

Despite these early setbacks, Samson formed crucial partnerships with KL Rahul and Tilak Varma. The 52-run stand with Rahul stabilised India's innings, while the 116-run partnership with Tilak Varma was instrumental in building a solid platform for a competitive total.

Playing a mature and responsible knock, Samson paced his innings perfectly and also guided and helped Varma reach his maiden ODI fifty.

Samson's century was his first in international cricket and came at a time when India needed someone to step up. Although he fell while trying to accelerate towards the end, his contribution was vital in setting a competitive total of 296/8, which ultimately helped India secure a 78-run win.
