Australian wicketkeeper Josh Inglis was booed by a near-capacity Lord’s crowd during his team’s fourth ODI match of the series against hosts England. The incident occurred during the 17th over of the English innings when hosts skipper Harry Brook edged an attempted flick towards Inglis off Mitchell Starc.

Remarkably, the entire episode revoked much memories from the time when another Australian wicketkeeper, Alex Carey, was similarly booed by the Lord’s crowd during Australia’s previous trip to England last year.

Inglis joins Carey as Lord’s Least-Liked Australian Keeper

English captain Harry Brook was batting on 17* in the 17th over of the innings when he attempted to flick Mitchell Starc for a boundary. However, Brook merely managed to nick the ball towards Australian wicketkeeper Josh Inglis, who appealed for a wicket after seemingly completing a ‘clean catch’.

As it turned out, television replays indicated that the ball had just bounced inches before the wicketkeeper’s gloves, thus drawing much taunts and jeers from a near capacity host crowd of Lord’s.

Back in July 2023 during the Ashes series in England, Australian wicketkeeper Alex Carey was also booed by the Lord’s crowd after he ran out an unmindful but well-set English batter Jonny Bairstow.

Regardless, Harry Brook went on to make the most of his ‘grassy’ reprieve as he ended up smacking 87 scintillating runs from just 58 deliveries with 11 boundaries and a six. His innings, coupled with Liam Livingston’s slog-overs explosion helped fuel the English total to 312-5 in a 39-over game.

Seamers, led by Brydon Carse and Matthew Potts, mopped up the Australian run-chase at 126 to secure a 186-run win, thus bringing the five-match series to levelling terms. Interim skipper Harry Brook was adjudged the ‘Player of the Match’ for the second time in succession after he plundered a match-winning ton in Durham earlier this week.
