Ajinkya Rahane’s alertness on the field gave Chennai Super Kings an early second innings advantage in their ongoing clash against Delhi Capitals. The cricketer sprinted towards the ball and capitalised on a mix-up between Manish Pandey and non-striker Mitchell Marsh, to send the latter packing back to the pavilion within the powerplay itself.
Marsh’s dismissal pushed the Capitals into further chaos as they struggle to get going against CSK’s 167 in a must-win IPL 2023 game in Chennai.
Rahane stuns Capitals with cunning runout
Chasing CSK’s 167-run total, the Delhi Capitals lost their captain David Warner for a two-ball duck in the opening over itself. Phil Salt soon followed his skipper back to the pavilion while a moment of uncertainty on Manish Pandey’s part curtailed Mitchell Marsh’ stay at the crease.
In the first ball of the fourth over, Pandey nudged the ball towards point for a single, only to change his mind at the last instant. Non-striker Marsh, however, took off while a charging Ajinkya Rahane collected the ball and sprinted his way towards the other end to dislodge the stumps.
The dismissal pushed the Capitals back into further trouble, considering the charismatic Australian all-rounder has been in scintillating touch with the bat off late.
At the time of publishing, the Capitals reached 63-3 off nine overs, still 105 runs away for a win from the remaining 66 balls.
