Mumbai Indians – 200/4 in 16.3 overs [Suryakumar Yadav 83 (35), Nehal Wadhera 52* (34); Vijaykumar Vyshak 2/37 (3), Wanindu Hasaranga 2/53 (4)] beat Royal Challengers Bangalore – 199/6 in 20 overs [Glenn Maxwell 68 (33), Faf du Plessis 65 (41); Jason Behrendorff 3/36 (4), Cameron Green 1/15 (2)]

Mumbai Indians hunted down RCB’s 199-run total with ease in match number 54 of the ongoing IPL 2023 season. Suryakumar Yadav headlined an exciting run-chase for the hosts in Wankhede, as Rohit Sharma and co. registered a much-needed win with more than 3-and-a-half overs still in hand.

Notably, the win elevated them straight to number three on the IPL 2023 points table, having previously placed at number eight prior to the launch of the contest.

Faf du Plessis extends Orange Cap dominance, powers RCB to 199

Virat Kohli returned with a rare failure as the RCB opener was dismissed for just a run by Mumbai Indians speedster Jason Behrendorff. The burly Australian grabbed two more wickets in the evening to finish with figures of 3-36 off his four overs.

RCB number three Anuj Rawat also departed soon after Kohli, thus paving way for an early Glenn Maxwell entrance to the crease. The all-rounder shared a roaring 120-run stand with captain Faf du Plessis, who extended his Orange Cap dominance this season with a sublime 41-ball 65.

Maxwell himself struck 68 from just 33 balls, in an innings glittered with four sixes and eight boundaries. Mumbai Indians bowlers pulled back the free-flowing rate to their favour by dismissing the attacking duo in quick succession.

At 146-5 in 14.1 overs, seasoned veteran Dinesh Karthik provided a late charge with an 18-ball 30 in the death. Once looking settled for an easy 230-plus total, the RCB eventually had to crawl their way to 199-6.

Suryakumar Yadav makes short work of daunting total

Rohit Sharma’s torrid IPL 2023 run continues as the Mumbai Indians skipper was sent back to the pavilion for just seven in a humongous run-chase. However, his opening partner Ishan Kishan and deputy Suryakumar Yadav made light work of their task.

While Kishan clubbed a 21-ball 42, Yadav whacked a career-best 83 from just 35 balls. The latter of the two pulled, cut, lofted, and swept his way to a match-winning special, in an herculean knock that featured seven boundaries and six towering sixes.

The dynamic batter took a special liking to Vijaykumar Vyshak and ace spinner Wanindu Hasaranga, dishing them with heavy punishments to take Mumbai Indians closer to the finishing line. Notably, the two RCB bowlers also emerged as their best from the high-scoring evening, with both claiming two wickets each off their combined seven overs.

Nehal Wadhera also made his presence felt in the innings, as he struck three sixes in his 34-ball 52* including a winning hit in the 17th over.

Mumbai Indians run-chase rampage now puts them at number three on the IPL 2023 points table, jumping past the likes of Punjab Kings, RCB, KKR, Rajasthan Royals and LSG during the business end of the tournament.
