Delhi Capitals: 187/3 in 16.4 overs [Phil Salt 87 (45), Rilee Rossouw 35* (22); Josh Hazlewood 1/29 (3), Harshal Patel 1/32 (2)] beat Royal Challengers Bangalore: 181/4 in 20 overs [Virat Kohli 55 (46), Mahipal Lomror 54* (29); Mitchell Marsh 2/21 (3), Mukesh Kumar 1/30 (3)] by 7 wickets.

Phil Salt cracked a scintillating 87 as Delhi Capitals jumps into the IPL 2023 playoffs reckoning with a seven-wicket trouncing of the RCB. The win granted the Capitals their fourth in the past five games, as they swapped places with Sunrisers Hyderabad on the IPL 2023 points table.

Kohli, Lomror fireworks push RCB to 181

As has been a norm this season for the RCB, openers Virat Kohli and Orange Cap holder Faf du Plessis provided them a rollicking start at the top of the order. The latter of the two listed a rapid 45 and crossed the 500-run mark this season.

On the other hand, Kohli cracked his sixth half-century of the season and was assisted by Mahipal Lomror’s thunderous surge in the second half of the RCB innings. The youngster charted an unbeaten 29-ball 54, thus providing the much-needed charge for his side in the death overs.

Among the Delhi Capitals bowlers, all-rounder Mitchell Marsh was the most successful of them by claiming two victims, including that of Glenn Maxwell for a first-ball duck. In a bid to up the scoring rate, Dinesh Karthik lost his wicket to Khaleel Ahmed in the final over as RCB reached 181-4 at the end.

Salt continues Delhi Capitals late insurgency

David Warner’s decision to open with Phil Salt once again paid off for the Delhi Capitals as the latter unleashed a 45-ball 87 in the run-chase. The 26-year-old Englishman battered a hapless RCB attack, dispatching them for eight boundaries and six sixes in front of a packed Delhi crowd.

While Warner himself contributed with 22 in a 60-run opening stand within the powerplay, Mitchell Marsh later played a second fiddle to Salt’s all-out assault at the crease.

South African batter Rilee Rossouw clubbed a 22-ball 35* and Delhi Capitals in-form hero Axar Patel listed a three-ball 8* as the duo provided the finishing touches in an easy run-chase.

Every RCB bowler, including speedsters Mohammed Siraj and Harshal Patel, were taken to cleaners. Karn Sharma managed to curtail Salt’s knock but even the senior spinner returned with three expensive overs.

The demolition job concluded with more than three overs still intact, as Capitals jump to number nine on the points table with their fourth win this season. Notably, they endured a torrid run earlier in the tournament by spending their first five games without a win.
