In the 20th match of The Hundred 2024 between London Spirit and Trent Rockets at Trent Bridge, Nottingham, on August 7, Trent Rockets opener Adam Lyth departed cheaply as he fell in the very first over. 

Trent Rockets won the toss and elected to bat first. The incident took place on the 4th ball of the first over when right-arm bowler Richard Gleeson came to bowl against English cricketer Adam Lyth.

Gleeson delivered a good length ball at the off stump, with a hint of swing back in. Lyth, aiming to take advantage of the powerplay, attempted to whip it over the on-side, trying to replicate Suryakumar Yadav’s signature pick shot.

However, he failed to execute it properly, getting the ball off the inner half of his bat. The ball flew straight to Shimron Hetmyer at deep square leg, who took an easy catch, sending Lyth back to the pavilion.

At the time of writing, Lewis Gregory’s Trent Rockets are at 31 for 1 in 25 balls. The early loss of Lyth put the Rockets on the back foot, and they will need a solid performance from their middle order to build a competitive total.
