It could have been another tough day for Ireland had rain not intervened and abandoned the match as the English side had a cruising start to their innings, thanks to explosive opener Phil Salt's lethal attack on the bowlers.

The solid right-hander, who faced the first ball of the innings, took on pacer Mark Adair and cut him for four. Following delivery, he punched it through the extra cover region for another boundary, and then, the third ball was pulled away for one more boundary to complete the hattrick of fours. However, he didn't stop there as the fourth ball was bludgeoned for a massive six over mid-wicket region.

Salt's charge first-up helped England and himself to score big as the opener smashed a 22-ball half-century that he completed in the sixth over and reached there with another biggie. His carnage ended on the 28th delivery he faced as his innings finished on the score of 61 with seven fours and four sixes.

England, by the end of 31 overs, were 280 for four down with Ben Duckett still at the crease with 107 to his name when rain poured down in Bristol. Skipper Zak Crawley, too, played a fine hand with 51 runs from 42 deliveries.

Meanwhile, Craig Young bagged three wickets for the Irish but still couldn't save his side from the series defeat as the game was abandoned like the first one while the hosts won the second match.

To the unversed, England were without their regular players for the series, who have been rested ahead of the World Cup scheduled to take place in India from 5th October.
