English openers Phil Salt and Will Jacks carpet-bombed a hapless Irish attack straight from the outset in their third ODI in Bristol. Taking no time to settle, the two cricketers unleashed a barrage of powerplay boundaries as the hosts raced to their team 50 in record time.

Much to the chagrin of the visiting bowlers, Salt and Jacks’ brutal batting bombardment continued, with the duo piling up 87 runs in just the first seven overs of the innings.

Phil Salt took first guard in the innings, facing Ireland's new-ball pacer Mark Adair. The right-handed opener, seemingly on a mission to take the leather off the ball, belted three boundaries and a six off the first four balls of the match.

His partner Will Jacks also got into the act with successive sixes off Josh Little to start off the third over, as England raced to their team 50 from just 21 balls, their fastest-ever effort in an ODI.

Salt eventually became the first of the two openers to depart after bludgeoning his way to a whirlwind 28-ball 61. Jacks departed a while later after making 39 from 21 balls with England’s score reading an astonishing 104-2 from 8.4 overs.

Captain Zak Crawley, at number three, piled on the Irish pain by moving up the scoreboard with Ben Duckett.

Notably, hosts England took field in Bristol for the third ODI with a 1-0 series lead on their back. They blanked their guests by 48 runs in the previous match in Nottingham, after the opening affair was abandoned owing to ceaseless rains in Leeds.
