The 2024 edition of Women's Big Bash League is finally underway and in the second game, it is Melbourne Renegades Women up against Sydney Sixers Women. It is a big-ticket encounter with plenty of superstars, but WBBL is also a platform to nurture a young talent, and this year, Caoimhe Bray is all set to sizzle in the league.
Bray is just 15 years old and has already shown signs of turning into a world-class cricketer. The Australian played in the T20 Spring Challenge, and now in her debut WBBL game, she has got the big wicket of one of the finest batters in women's cricket - Deandra Dottin.
Caoimhe Bray Stuns Red-Hot Deandra Dottin
The West Indian is 33 years old and has been instrumental in them winning the 2016 Women's T20 World Cup. She also played brilliantly in the recently held Women's World Cup and is playing for Melbourne Renegades in this WBBL. The hard-hitting batter looked set to carry that form in this game and came all guns blazing, smashing the 15-year-old all over the park with 14 runs in first three balls.
However, the Sydney Sixers bowler did not let the pressure and the stature of Deandra Dottin get into her head and made a stunning comeback on the final ball of the over by cleaning up the big right-hander. It was a perfect yorker on middle and leg, and Dottin who did not expect that length, just missed it and the ball shattered the stumps.
It was the first wicket for Caoimhe Bray in her WBBL career, and it was a huge wicket for Sixers as Renegades were cruising at that time with 80 runs on the board in just the ninth over. It slowed down Renegades' charge, and Caoimhe Bray will surely remember her first wicket in WBBL.
