On Sunday, October 12, Pakistan locked horns against South Africa in the first of a two-match Test series at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Pakistan, batting first, got off to a flying start as Imam-ul-Haq and Shan Masood stitched a 161-run stand for the 2nd wicket.
Senuran Muthusamy eventually broke the partnership as the 31-year-old trapped Shan Masood on the legs in the 48th over of the match. Notably, it was a bizarre moment in Pakistan cricket as the fans, who had turned up in big numbers, were happy to see their captain getting out.
Fans cheer for Shan Masood's dismissal
Earlier, the umpire refused to raise his finger, but a successful review forced the umpire to change his decision. The fans were elated as they saw the three reds on the big screen, and the reason was Babar Azam.
The fans were eagerly waiting to see the return of Babar Azam to the Pakistan team and were elated after Shan Masood's dismissal. It is not an ideal sight for any team where the fans cheer after the dismissal of their own captain.
However, such were the scenes in Lahore, and the crowd went wild as Babar walked to bat. The presenters were stunned by what they were seeing on the field, and in the awe of such scenes, South Africa legend Shaun Pollock made a massive error on live television.
Shaun Pollock makes a big blunder in commentary
When Shan Masood was given out, Pollock expressed his shock over the Pakistani fans' reaction and mistakenly called Shan Masood the captain of India.
“I can't believe they would want Shan Masood, the captain of India, to be out just to get Babar to the crease. Think we need to have a word with these supporters,” said Pollock on air.
Another interesting thing to note is that Pollock didn't even rectify his mistake.
