On Sunday, October 12, Kuldeep Yadav, yet again, weaved his magic with the ball and picked up his fifth five-wicket haul to rattle Windies for just 248 runs in the first innings of the 2nd Test. Yadav has been on a roll in this series as the left-arm spinner has taken nine wickets in just three innings.

Notably, since the retirement of R Ashwin, the management is touting Kuldeep as India's premier spinner even in red-ball cricket. The left-arm spinner was always the first choice in white-ball cricket, but recently, he has been getting his chances in Test cricket.

Further, Kuldeep is making full use of the opportunities presented to him and has repaid the faith shown in him by the selectors. The fans have often pointed out the injustice towards Kuldeep, as the spinner has played just 15 matches in 8 years since his debut.

Meanwhile, this article will shed light on Kuldeep's performance against R Ashwin after the first 15 Test matches.

Kuldeep Yadav vs R Ashwin: Who is the better bowler after 15 Tests

R Ashwin made his India Test debut in 2011 and played 15 Tests within just three years of his debut, unlike Kuldeep, who had to wait for eight years to cement his place in the team. Let's look at his detailed stats after 15 Tests.

Key Observation

  • If we look at the stats, then R Ashwin has taken 20 more wickets than Kuldeep Yadav after 15 Tests and also boasts more five-wicket hauls. While, Kuldeep has five, Ashwin had eight, which signifies that the team was really depended on the right-arm off-spinner to get the job done and pick up wickets in bunches.
  • However, if we look at the strike-rate, which is a crucial parameter for any bowler, then there is a massive difference. Kuldeep has a strike-rate of 36, which means that Yadav picks up a wicket after every 36th delivery, while Ashwin took nearly 61 deliveries for a wicket. Thus, there is a contrast difference and it shows that Kuldeep has been more effective than Ashwin despite bowling less than half the overs than Ashwin in first 15 Tests.

Before jumping to any conclusion, it is also important to look at the detailed stats of both players at home and away.
