Shoaib Malik was knocked over by a young Pakistani fast bowler in the final league match of the Champions T20 Cup 2024 at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. Batting at number four and arriving to the crease following the dismissal of both Stallions openers, Malik’s stay lasted just three deliveries before losing his middle stump to Dolphins quick Abbas Afridi.
In spite of Malik’s batting failure, the Stallions cruised to an emphatic six-wicket victory in just 14 overs to register their sixth win over of the competition.
Pakistan’s ageing warhorse toppled by rising star
Chasing 132 runs for a win, former Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik batted at number four and scored just a run from three balls before getting cleaned up by Abbas Afridi. In an attempt to scorch his off side, the senior cricketer made room and had the ball crashed on to his middle stump instead as the Stallions slipped to 82-3 in 8.3 overs.
With his latest batting failure, Shoaib Malik finished the opening round of the Pakistan Champions T20 Cup 2024 with just 126 runs from six innings at a belowpar average of 25.20. Moreover, the seasoned T20 campaigner managed to maintain a strike rate of just 110.52 throughout the tournament so far. With the ball, the soon-to-be 43-year-old has picked up four wickets from five innings.
Regardless of his inconsistent run with both bat and ball, the Shoaib Malik-starrer Stallions defeated the Dolphins by six wickets, and finished the round-robin stage of the competition at the top of the Pakistan Champions T20 Cup 2024 points table with six wins from eight matches.
Captain Mohammad Haris led the Stallions from the front in the chase by smacking an unbeaten 52* from just 30 balls against the Dolphins. Earlier in the game, Mohammad Ali (4-15) and Hussain Talat (3-16) picked up seven wickets between them to restrict the Dolphins to just 131 in 20 overs.
