The Mumbai Marines emerged as the champions of the inaugural Big Cricket League (BCL) 2024 after a sensational chase in the final against the Southern Spartans on Sunday (December 22). The match, was played at the Lalbhai Contractor Stadium in Surat.

Talking about the match, the Southern Spartans posted a total of 210 batting first in their allotted 20 overs with significant contribution from Phil Mustard, who played a blistering knock of 78 runs off 39 balls. 

But it was the innings of their captain, Suresh Raina, which stood out as the highlight of their innings. The former Indian cricketer played with his characteristic flair and ease, and scored 51 runs off just 26 balls. His knock was a masterclass in aggressive yet controlled batting, as he dispatched the ball to all parts of the ground.

His timing was impeccable, and the placement of his shots was a thing of beauty. Whether it was a perfectly executed maximums or a finely timed boundary, his stroke showcased his undying class.

During the chase, the Mumbai Marines' reply started on a shaky note. Openers Mihir Agarwal and Malinda Pushpakumara were dismissed early, leaving the team in a precarious position. However, the rescue act was provided by the dynamic duo of Manan Sharma and Jesal Karia.

However, the true hero of the chase was Manan Sharma. The Mumbai captain delivered an extraordinary performance, and remained unbeaten on 89 runs from 42 balls. At the end, it was the partnership between Manan and Irfan Pathan, that sealed the deal for the Mumbai Marines.
