Afghanistan took on the T20 World Cup debutants, Uganda in the fifth mtach of the T20 World Cup 2024. This match was played at the Providence Stadium in Guyana.

Gurbaz-Zadran lay the foundation

Brian Masaba, the Ugandan skipper won the toss and asked Afghanistan to bat first. The opening pair of Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran got Afghanistan off to a great start as they sitched a 154-run partnership for the first wicket.

However, Uganda made a comeback after the fall of the first wicket as they gave away just 27 runs and dimissed four more Afghan batters in the last five overs. This late effort by the Ugandan bowlers ensured that the Afghan total was restriced to 183/5 in 20 overs, which was at one stage expected to go past the 230-mark.

The Afghans plunder through the Ugandan batting line-up

The chase looked a steep climb for the first timers in T20 World Cup. But the Afghan bowlers forced them to submit meekly and get bundled out for just 58 runs. The destruction with the ball was started by Fazalhaq Farooqi in the first over where he picked up two wickets and gave an early jolt to The Cranes. The rest of the Ugandan batting failed to recover from the shock and failed to show any kind of resolution. The Afghan left-arm pacer ended with 5/9 in his four overs.

This total by the African team now stands as the fourth lowest one in a T20 World Cup match. The lowest total belongs to Netherlands. The Dutch were bundled out for just 39 by Sri Lanka in World Cup 2014. Here is a look at the top five lowest totals in T20 World Cup.
