It was a thrilling night at Providence Stadium, Guyana, where Trinbago Knight Riders lifted their fifth CPL trophy since 2020. Trinbago faced off against Guyana Amazon Warriors in the grand final of CPL 2025 and cruised to a comfortable victory.
Guyana had finished ahead of Trinbago in the points table before the playoffs. However, Trinbago’s consistent performance through the Eliminator and Qualifier made them the more deserving side to bag the silverware. Though it turned out to be a low-scoring final, the thrill remained at its peak. Let’s take a look at how the big clash unfolded in Guyana.
Guyana Lose The Plot With The Bat
After winning the toss, Guyana opted to bat first but stumbled early, with opener Quentin Sampson dismissed on the fourth ball of the very first over. Ben McDermott steadied the innings with a brief knock but fell just before the powerplay to Saurabh Netravalkar. Despite a few middle-order contributions, Guyana kept losing wickets at regular intervals.
Iftikhar Ahmed’s 30 off 27 and Dwaine Pretorius’ quick 25 from 18 balls were the notable efforts to help Guyana pile up 130 runs. Hence, the lower middle order provided some resistance, but the batting unit struggled to anchor the innings when needed most.
For Trinbago’s bowling attack, Sunil Narine went wicketless and conceded 30 runs in his four overs. Akeal Hosein picked up two wickets, Andre Russell chipped in with one, but the star performer was Saurabh Netravalkar, who claimed three wickets at an impressive economy of 6.25 from his full quota.
Trinbago Triumph Over Early Scares
Chasing the target of 131, Trinbago too had early setbacks, losing wickets in the 3rd and 5th overs. Colin Munro, the consistent opener, was dismissed by Dwaine Pretorius, who also removed Nicholas Pooran for just one run. Darren Bravo departed in the 8th over, leaving the chase in a tight spot as Trinbago kept losing crucial wickets.
Alex Hales top-scored with a patient 26 off 34 balls, while Sunil Narine contributed 22 from 17 deliveries. Veteran Kieron Pollard added a quickfire 21 off 12, but it was Akeal Hosein and Keacy Carty who guided the team home with winning runs.
For Guyana, skipper Imran Tahir troubled the batting order with a brilliant 3-wicket haul, while Shamar Joseph also picked up two wickets. However, in the decisive chase, with 14 runs needed off the last 18 balls, Akeal Hosein sealed the game in style, smashing a massive six off Gudakesh Motie before hitting a boundary to finish the job.
