The Trinbago Knight Riders set up a clinical all-round performance to thrash the Saint Lucia Kings by 56 runs in Qualifier 2 of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2025. With the win, TKR marched into yet another CPL final, while Saint Lucia’s campaign ended in disappointment.
After being put in to bat, Trinbago posted a commanding 194/4 in their 20 overs, thanks to blistering knocks from Alex Hales (58 off 42)* and skipper Nicholas Pooran (50 off 32). The duo batted with intent and maintained momentum throughout.
TKR Bulldoze Saint Lucia Kings To Seal CPL Final Berth
Nicholas Pooran’s aggressive half-century was filled with clean hitting, smashing four boundaries and five sixes at a strike rate of 156.25. Veteran Kieron Pollard (35 off 26) played the finisher’s role perfectly, while Andre Russell chipped in with a quick 28 before being run out in the final over.
Saint Lucia bowling was toothless with only Roston Chase offering control with a wicket and 16 runs lost in 3 overs. Tymal Mills and Alzarri Joseph were costly, giving away more than 9 runs per over, and David Wiese found the lines troublesome. As a result, Trinbago comfortably crossed the 190 mark, setting a daunting target.
Chasing 195 for victory, the Kings faltered under scoreboard pressure. Wicketkeeper-batter Tim Seifert fought valiantly at the top with a 57 off 40 balls, hitting 8 fours and a six.
He received brief support from Tim David (28 off 19), but apart from these two, no batter showed composure against Trinbago’s disciplined attack. Once Sunil Narine removed David in the 15th over, Saint Lucia’s hopes faded quickly.
Narine was once again the star with the ball, returning figures of 3/18 in four overs, including the crucial wickets of David, Aaron Jones, and David Wiese. Left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein was equally effective, conceding just 22 runs in his 4 overs. Meanwhile, young pacer Usman Tariq impressed with 4/35, dismantling the Kings’ middle and lower order.
Trinbago Knight Riders To Face Guyana Amazon Warriors In Final
The Saint Lucia Kings eventually limped to 138/8 in their 20 overs, falling short by a massive margin of 56 runs. Their poor partnerships and poor shot choice cost them heavily.
With this overwhelming victory, Trinbago Knight Riders will now face Guyana Amazon Warriors in the CPL 2025 final held on September 21 at the Province Stadium in Guyana.
