Nicholas Pooran fined [Source: @Rokte_Amarr_KKR/x.com]
It was a night of fire and fury in the CPL Eliminator. While the Trinbago Knight Riders marched into the next round with a thumping nine-wicket win over the Antigua & Barbuda Falcons, the focus first flickered on their talisman Nicholas Pooran, not for his blazing blade but for a brush with the rulebook.
Nicholas Pooran Slapped With Level 1 Offence For Dissent In CPL
Nicholas Pooran has been slapped with a Level 1 offence under the CPL Code of Conduct for showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during the clash. He has accepted the sanction, coughing up 20% of his match fee.
For a while, the Falcons looked like they had their wings spread wide. Andries Gous and Amir Jangoo stitched together a cracking 108-run stand, taking the score to 129/1 with just four overs left. But from cruising altitude, they nosedived.
Enter Usman Tariq, who struck twice in two balls, prising out both set batters and breaking the game open. His 2/19 off four overs squeezed the life out of the innings, while Saurabh Netravalkar and Andre Russell mopped up at the death. The Falcons imploded to 166/8, well short of what looked like a 190-plus total at one stage.
Hales And Pooran Turn It Into A Sunday Stroll
When Colin Munro, the Knight Riders’ leading run-getter this season, fell early to Rahkeem Cornwall, the Falcons sensed an opening. What followed, though, was a demolition job.
Alex Hales and Pooran played like they were chasing in the nets, swatting aside anything that came their way. By the halfway stage, the equation was a walk in the park and the Falcons bowlers had no answers.
The pair stitched a monster 143-run stand with Hales cruising to 54* and Pooran unleashing fireworks in his 90*. It was clean, calculated carnage that shut the game down long before the final over.
Knight Riders Back In The Hunt
This win keeps Trinbago Knight Riders’ hunt for their first CPL crown since 2020 alive. After limping into the knockouts on the back of three straight losses, this performance was the shot of adrenaline they needed.
As for the Falcons, it’s heartbreak despite history. They reached the knockouts for the first time in their short CPL journey but the Eliminator proved a bridge too far
