India’s promising batter Tilak Varma raised the bar with his fielding standards during the County Championship game between Essex and Hampshire. Fielding at first slip, Varma grabbed a low catch to send Essex’s opener Paul Walter back into the dugout.

Varma is dreaming of playing in whites for India as he joined Hampshire for the ongoing County Championship. While Team India is struggling to hold on to catches in the ongoing Test against England at Headingley, Varma put on a much-needed tutorial for them at Chelmsford.

Tilak Varma Grabs Low Catch At Slip For Hampshire

In Essex’s second inning, Liam Dawson drew first blood to dismiss veteran Dean Elgar. In the same spell, he deceived Paul Walter and forced an outside edge, which flew straight to Tilak Varma at first slip.

In a video shared by Hampshire club on X, the ball was seen dipping in front of Varma and he reacted faster than the speed of light. He went forward to grab a catch just inches above the ground. Tilak’s stunning efforts sent Walter back into the hut as Essex were reduced to 45/2.

Tilak Varma previously displayed his brilliant fielding skills in limited formats, especially T20Is. But this is the first time the world has seen his composure and quick reflexes at slip.

Varma Scored 100 On County Debut

Tilak Varma made a stunning start to his County Championship stint, slamming a fighting century for Hampshire against Essex. Walking in at 34/2, Tilak showed composure under pressure and built key partnerships to take his side past Essex’s first-innings total of 296.

The left-hander reached his hundred off 239 balls on Day 3, after finishing unbeaten on 98 overnight. He struck 11 fours and 3 sixes, including two in one over off Matt Critchley, before falling for exactly 100 to Simon Harmer.
