On Day 5 of the India-England Headingley Test, Indian seamers failed to scalp a single wicket in the first 40 overs. England, tasked to chase 371 runs, were 181/0 and fans badly missed Mohammed Shami.

The visitors are on the verge of losing the first Test against England in Headingley as the host team were wicketless for 188 in their chase of 371 runs. Openers Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley knitted an 188-run partnership before rain stopped play in the second session of Day 5.

Fans Criticise Absence Of Mohammed Shami In England Series

Team India entered Day 5 with the task of picking 10 wickets in order to win the game. However, the seamers, including Jasprit Bumrah, failed to produce a single wicket in the first 40 overs.

The bowlers could not even trouble Duckett and Crawley with the new ball as the English openers came down hard with strong intent.

Duckett scored a century, and when rain stopped play in the second session, England had 181 runs on the board with the loss of zero wickets.

With Indian bowlers struggling, fans missed the void of Mohammed Shami. Many believe that Shami’s experience could have made a difference, as Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj have been ineffective.

Shami was ruled out of the England series as chief selector Ajit Agarkar informed that the pacer underwent MRI scans that revealed fresh injury concerns.

Agarkar added that they were initially hopeful Shami would recover in time to play at least a few matches, but the medical team officially ruled him out of the entire tour.
