On Tuesday, Trent Rockets and Southern Brave will take on each other in the first match of The Hundred 2023. The high-voltage face-off is scheduled at the iconic Trent Bridge in Nottingham.

Led by Lewis Gregory, Trent Rockets had an outstanding campaign in The Hundred last season, as they clinched the title by defeating Manchester Originals in the final. Their batting looks rock-solid, studded with explosive batters throughout the lineup. 

While Alex Hales and Dawid Malan will open, the likes of Colin Munro and Tom Kohler-Cadmore strengthen their batting order alongside skipper Lewis Gregory and the all-rounder Daniel Sams. 

Luke Wood and Sam Cook form a lethal new-ball bowling pair for the Rockets, with Ish Sodhi and the experienced Samit Patel spearheading their spin department. So, in all likelihood, they will start as certain favourites to win this match. 


Southern Brave

Southern Brave had an abysmal outing in The Hundred 2022, finishing seventh with only three wins in eight matches. So, they have to start from scratch and work on their grey areas in their quest for a turn-around. 

Their batting has certainly been boosted by the inclusion of Devon Conway, who was a prolific performer for Texas Super Kings in the recently concluded Major League Cricket. The presence of Leus du Plooy and Tim David ensures enough dynamism in their squad, while Mitchell Santner provides them with the balance, being an incredible all-rounder. 

Despite having a fine new-ball bowler in George Garton, the Brave's death bowling could emerge as a concern for them, with an injury-prone Tymal Mills and an aged Chris Jordan set to shoulder the slog-over bowling duties.
