Mohammad Rizwan extended his lean patch in the BBL as he fell prey to Ben Dwarshuis for a single-digit score in Melbourne Renegades' ongoing encounter against Sydney Sixers. Coming at number three, Rizwan could score only six runs before Dwarshuis castled him in the high-voltage BBL clash at the Docklands Stadium.

While Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi have received massive backlash for their poor returns in the BBL, Mohammad Rizwan hasn't been an exception as well. The right-handed batter has managed only 58 runs across four innings at a horrendous average of 14.50 and a strike rate of 100.

Given that Mohammad Rizwan could score only 52 runs in his first three BBL 2025-26 outings, the match against the Sixers was a golden opportunity for his redemption. However, as the batter failed to live up to the hype, cricket fans slammed him on social media.

While some fans called out Rizwan for his poor strike rate, some suggested him to quit T20 cricket. Here are a few fan reactions, criticising Rizwan amid his woeful BBL form.

"Time to give it up Rizwan before embarrassing yourself further #BBL15" - @CricketTamizhan

"Rizwan , What a flop for Melbourne renegades this season." - @Dhoni_Tweetz

"It's time for Rizwan to move on from T20 cricket." - @AneesGill2018

"6 of 10 balls. Rizwan masterclass. One clown commentator said he is so strong on off side." - @Azwathma

From Pakistan's Mr. dependable to a liability: Mohammad Rizwan's T20 decline summarised

Not long ago, Mohammad Rizwan used to be one of the backbones of the Pakistani batting unit in T20 Internationals. The keeper-batter formed a stable combination with Babar Azam, as the duo slammed 2522 runs, becoming the most successful opening pair for Pakistan in T20I history.

However, a quiet series against England, followed by a horrible T20 World Cup campaign in 2024 when Pakistan crashed out of the group-stage following an embarrassing defeat against the United States, raised serious questions over his place in the T20I team.

The inevitable unfolded, with Pakistan sidelining Rizwan from the shortest format and opting for more dynamic batters to spearhead their top-order. Before getting dropped, Mohammad Rizwan scored 3414 runs at an average of 47.42 and a strike rate of 125.38 in T20I cricket.

As a result, the likes of Sahibzada Farhan became regular in Pakistan's T20I squad, while Usman Khan and Mohammad Haris re-entered the scheme of things as first-choice wicketkeepers.

Although the BBL gave Rizwan a great opportunity to prove his mettle and present a strong case for his inclusion in Pakistan's T20 World Cup squad, his entry seems improbable given the kind of form he has showcased in the Australian league so far.
